I love Pauper. I love brewing. What better way to combine the two than to start a series dedicated to brewing in pauper.

Far too often do I look at Online results and wallow in the fact that it’s the same decks every week. Izzet Drake, Tron, Affinity, delver, blah blah blah. Enough I say! Can we begin to innovate against these power house archetypes?

What I plan to do is to set out to try and explore a format in desperate need for exploration. Do I believe I will break the meta game week after week? Of course not. But, do I believe I will find interesting and powerful interactions that could possibly create a powerful player in the meta game? Possibly!

So if you care to join me, buckle up and get ready for a zany ride into Magic’s most accessible format!

First week in, and we’ve already got something spicy. Whirlpool Mill!

Deck Tech

Round 1 vs Red Black Tortured Exsistence

Round 2 vs Mono Black Aggro

Round 3 vs Blue Black Mill

Whirlpool Mill Conclusion

Well what can we say. Maybe a little under powered? Maybe a little inconsistent? Maybe all of the above?

This week was a bit of a beating, but that’s alright. Not every deck is going to be caw-blade. There were a few things I really liked in the deck though. Gush proved itself to be a very powerful card, and Whirlpool Rider, as an engine card in combo deck’s, looks to be a real possibility.

What did you like or dislike in this deck? Please let me know in the comments. And, if you have any suggestions for next weeks deck, feel free to comment, I’d love to hear what you guys have cooking in this wonderful format we call pauper.

Until next time,

Austen

I wonder if Snapback from Time Spiral might not be a better choice than Snap? You can exile another Blue card from your hand to cast it for free. It would make looping multiple Whirpool Riders easier, since you almost never seemed to have two lands to untap with Snap after all of your Gushing.
